The Dentist

So for the most part, this whole stupid fiasco with tooth #19 is over. The idea of the dentist is great and most of the dentists I’ve known in my life have been wonderful people. As much as I’m thankful that I live in a time in history that we have dentists and dentists have anesthetic, I really hate the experience of being in that chair. Note to any future enemies: if you want to torture me for information just bring in a dentist and I’ll tell you anything you want to know.

After a lot of needle sticks into my poor defenseless gums, the entire left half of the universe went numb and Dr. Whateverhisnamewas started drilling the fuck out of my tooth. He was very nice about it, which didn’t do anything to ease the pain I felt the entire rest of the day yesterday. But I now have a temporary crown on #19 which, I believe, makes it the king of my teeth. I’ll be doing a firmware update on that crown later this month and barring any bugs, that should be the final version. So that’s something I’m looking forward to.

The Boot Camp

Because I had that cracked molar, I’ve been afraid to do any kind of jarring workouts. That’s left me doing weight lifting every morning, and even that amounted mostly to a lot of low-weight bicep curls. But it was something, and that’s all I ever committed myself to doing so things are still okay.

I did the weight lifting again this morning, but I’m planning to get back on the treadmill tomorrow morning and see what I can do there.

Exercise
Weight Lifting

Food Log
Breakfast: Coffee, cottage cheese
Snack: Sunflower cookies
Lunch: Noodle Soup, Cookies (100 cal)
Snack: Graham Crackers (100 cal)
Dinner: Papa John’s Pizza (Deluxe Vegetarian)

Confessions of a D-List Supervillain by Jim Bernheimer is one of those low-cost e-books that you might pick up on a whim, knowing that if it’s not that good you only spent $2.99.

For a three dollar e-book, you get more than three dollars worth of entertainment. I tore through this book in less than 24 hours. Generally, I don’t sit down and read for hours at a time, but pretty much all I’ve done today is read this book. It’s a good book.

Now I’m going to tell you a little about it. There might be spoilers, so read this at your own risk.

The story is about a low-level supervillain named Calvin who has built a very iron-man-like suit and calls himself Mechani-CAL. Mechani-CAL hasn’t been very successful as a villain, has been to jail and has basically become a guy who makes weapons for other villains. He’s about as low on the ladder as you can get.

When 99% of the world becomes enslaved by mind controlling insects, it’s up to Mechani-CAL to save the world and all it’s super-heroes. This is a fun story with plenty of super-hero level action. But it’s not a typical good guys are always right and bad guys are always wrong kind of super-hero story. There is some dimension to the heroes and villains that give this story depth.

At the end of the book it was clear that there could be a sequel. And I really hope Mr. Bernheimer is working on one because he’s created a really fun super-hero universe.

This cracked tooth is starting to hurt. Within 24 hours I’ll have seen the dentist for real to get this taken care of with a temporary cap. The shitty thing about it is that not only is it a pain in the ass to eat and only chew on one side of my mouth, I can’t really do a hard workout. I mean, I could do a hard workout, but I think it would cause me much pain.

When society collapses, the dentists will be kings.

I’m not even bothering to keep track of what I’m eating, but I have continuing to do my daily exercise even if it’s just walking or doing some non-strenuous weight lifting.

Yesterday was a very odd day for me. I woke up early and was laying there enjoying the nice warm bed when my tongue discovered a crack in one of my molars. This, of course, freaked me out. What happened, I think, is that one of the delicious candy coated almonds I was eating the day before was just a little to hard and caused the crack. So my ancient body is starting to crumble.

My dentist had an early opening, so I was able to scramble around and get a shower and head up there first thing. An x-ray and quick examination confirmed the crack. So now I’m going to be getting a crown. That’s right, one of my teeth will be the King of the mouth and rule over the other teeth with an iron (or probably porcelain) fist! So that’s going to be fun.

Because of that, I was out of sorts the entire day. Meanwhile, I was in the middle of a book called “Fuckness”, which is a first-person story told by a kid who’s insane, has devil horns and is just flat out weird. It was a good book, but it was just really weird. So filling my head with that didn’t help.

I’ve been eating very carefully with this cracked tooth because I don’t want it to break before I get in for the temporary crown next Monday.

Yesterday we did all our shopping and went to the big mall. Picked up some stuff at the LEGO store and found some good deals on LEGO sets at Walmart and our local grocery store. It was all very exciting.

I have no recollection of what I ate yesterday other than sushi for lunch and sweet and sour chicken from the Chinese place for dinner. Seems like I had fruit for breakfast… maybe yogurt and definitely coffee. Maybe I did have a recollection.

Food Log
Breakfast: 2 fried egg whites and fried summer sausage
Snack: Sunflower cookies
Lunch: Tuna salad sandwich
Snack: Almond candy
Dinner: That nameless turkey dish

It’s been almost four weeks since I began tracking my food and exercising every day. Here’s what’s happened: I dropped 10 pounds pretty quickly and I’ve just been maintaining it. For a while I was having a problem getting light headed when I’d go from sitting to standing. That seems to have cleared up almost completely, which I’m going to guess is just my body adjusting to the fairly abrupt ten pound change.

Lately I’ve just been doing my minimum workouts, which is perfectly okay and fits into my self-imposed requirements. I’m thinking that on the first of the year I’m going to make it a point to start doing more rigorous workouts – specifically building up my running time and distance.

Once all the goodies from Christmas are gone, it’s going to be much easier to stick to eating healthy. The cheesecake bites are gone now, and I may remove the other stuff from it’s current position out in the open on the kitchen counter. It’s just too much of a temptation. Or maybe I’m just to weak willed when it comes to ginger chocolate covered malted milk balls.

Walking on treadmill

Breakfast: Coffee, yogurt
Snack: 3 Cheesecake bites
Lunch: Double Quarter Pounder w/ Cheese
Snack: no
Dinner: Fish Tacos
